Gary Keating, Head PGA Golf Professional

Gary Keating Photo The Club at Shell Point is pleased to introduce Director of Golf Gary Keating. With 20 years of experience, Gary brings an accomplished background in all aspects of the profession, from playing and touring to teaching and managing.

Gary was featured in several golfing magazines after he made four Eagles in one round of golf in the Powder Puff Pro-Am in 1991 - the first time this feat was recorded in the history of golf! A 16-time Challenge Cup competitor, he played on the European Tour for three years and is a record holder at 19 golf courses.

A Class A PGA Member since 1991, Gary was named the Southwest Florida PGA Player of the Year in 1996, 1997 and 1999. He also qualified and played in the 1995 and 1997 Honda Classic. PGA Member Logo

As a teacher, Gary worked with 15 touring professionals from PGA tour, Senior PGA tour, LPGA tour, the Canadian Tour and the European tour. He was named PGA Southwest Florida Chapter Teacher of the Year in 2001 and 2002.

Chris Ewing, PGA Assistant Golf Professional

Chris Ewing Photo Chris Ewing, a PGA Class A member, is the First Assistant Golf Professional at Shell Point. Chris has over 20 years’ experience in the golf business, having held positions at Kelly Greens, Veranda, and The Estero Country Club before coming to Shell Point. He specializes in teaching beginners or those who are returning to the game of golf. He has also coached a high school girls’ golf team, and led them to their best season ever.

Chris is also a proficient golfer, having once had seven birdies and an eagle in one round. He has a passion for promoting golf through instruction. His teaching philosophy is based on the individual goals and abilities of the player. Using simple, yet, effective concepts to help the student gain insight into their own style of play. During instruction, he uses video analysis to help the student understand their problems and improve their game.

Since coming to Shell Point, Chris has improved the organization of the men’s and ladies’ golf leagues. He has instructed many adults and juniors in the best way to play golf, and received significant praise for his efforts.
